PREP Answer the exam question at the bottom of this post. Media 'language' includes how things look and how to interpret their meaning. This is called semiotics. Semiotics is the analysis of both written and visual language. For example, you know what red roses connote, or traffic lights, motorway signage, or the signs on the lighting cupboard in the media studio. So a word or symbol can have connotations. We talk about 'green lighting' an idea for a project.

successful international news websites,
exploring one possible economic future for

all four areas of the media theoretical
framework, including all relevant theoretical

contexts.
Social and participatory media
We study the home
page of The Observer and at least
one other page in order to
investigate continuities in the form
and content of the pages. We must follow the links for a number
of articles and journalists to help
illustrate the media language
used, representations
constructed, modes of audience
address and the scope and scale
of The Observer’s online content.
