Yr 10 LESSON TODAY: PROMOTING MEDIA

We will do 3 lessons a week, each of 50 minutes plus prep, on TUESDAYS, WEDNESDAYS and FRIDAYS (I have split up Tuesday's double).

During the period when we deliver online lessons and set prep using the blog, you will need your text book. Matt, you have been asked to replace the text book which you think that you have lost at home:
OCR GCSE (9-1) MEDIA STUDIES by A. French, E. Lewis, R. Morrison, M.Rodgers
pub. Hodder Education

This part of the exam is the Warner Bros and Lego part!
Read carefully and slowly through pages 43 - 44 to remind yourself what kinds of knowledge and understanding you need to have.

From page 43:
  • Look at terms like media language: if you were asked in the exam, would you really know what this was and not fall into the elephant trap?
  • what is representation? Think about how Emmet and Wyldstyle are represented, for instance
  • media 'audiences' questions will relate to audience pleasures and audience engagement, how Warner attracts and addresses them
  • media industry issues include how the promo pack works together across several sectors
Read about question 6 page 43 to end of 44
  • revise regulators and regulatory information
Now test yourself
  • Use the green test at the top of page 45
  • revise the terms distribution and conglomerate on page 45
Next, read about what question 7 might involve (on page 45) and what the examiner is looking for. Turn over to page 46 and read the candidate's answer to question 7.

Now onto media industries and the background to the Lego Movie franchise:
  • page 46 the franchise and tent-pole productions
  • page 47 go online to find examples of Lego movie merchandising
  • page 47 synergy and what it does for Warner and the Lego movie
  • test yourself on the 2 questions in the blue box on page 47 (then look at the answers on page 135)
PREP Regulation in the film industry (bottom of page 47 to middle of page 48)
Read and test yourself. Answers on page 135.
