Yr 10: 02 MUSIC VIDEOS

After catching up on the 'media language' of music magazines MOJO and We Love Pop that come of the geography field trip pupils missed yesterday, we move on to the music video questions and make our first impressions of our two texts:

Wheatus Teenage Dirtbag

We look at media languagemedia representations and media audiences.

PREP for Friday 2 November

The sample question below is worth 4 marks and you would write about a page. Post it on your blog. Put the question at the top of your prep.

Media language:
We study the media language elements specific to music videos such as locations, costumes, choice of camera shot, framing, angle, lighting, lip- synching, performance and editing, including montage.
Music videos have a set of codes and conventions specific to the genre, such as cutting to the beat, performance (the artist singing / playing), lyp-synching (to convince the audience of the authenticity of the performance and ability of the artist), interpreting the lyrics, refrains, stars.
Media representations:
We study the way in which people and places are constructed (represented).
