Year 10 PROMOTING MEDIA: LEGO INDUSTRY & AUDIENCES
Welcome back to the Summer Term and our Google Meet.
We are sticking to the orderly progression through Paper 1 (TV and Promoting Media) then Paper 2 (Music and News). Currently, we are in the second bit of Paper 1, learning about how Warner promoted the Lego video game.
In our Google Meet, I will first check that you have understood two theories:
We are going to check that we have understood the industry background and ensure that we can write confidently and fully about the Lego family, mainstream audience.
You will need the pdf open to do this. If you have two devices (like a phone to see the pdf) or if you have printed the pdf, it could be useful, as we are also working together on a screen in Google Meet.
Here is the pdf factsheet link OCR pdf guide to the Lego movie video game: industry and audience here
We will go over the 'audience' section.
After the Google Meet is over and you've had a drink /stretched, please read this really useful linked article which is linked in the pdf The Lego Movie Videogame: Formulaic and Awesome
For your next task, I would like you to use your creativity and get out into your gardens (or wherever safe you are allowed to go when you leave the house). Please devise and film a brief video using your phone cameras (ask your parents for permission), ideally based on the Lego Movie video game. It can be a 'spoof', that is, deliberately non-serious. If this were my homework, I'd pretend to be Wyldstyle and treat my garden as the world of the game, escaping from Lord Business, jumping flower beds, hiding behind the tree house, recruiting (out of sight) fantasy heroes and generally saving the world. In fact, I might just make one...
The article that you are asked to read (and I have added it below, too) is full of info about the game's pleasure and visual codes, so see if y6ou can reference some of them (searching for gold and red bricks, using lasers, saying 'Everything is Awesome', making jokes, exploring the 5 zones, escaping the conformist regime, smashing bricks, fighting Lord Business, supporting Emmet, calling on help form other superhero characters, refering to the fact that everything is made of Lego).
Post it on your blog if you can - or just have it ready to show the group live next session.
See you same time, same place, next Wednesday 29 April at 2:30
